Today I ran for 5 kilometers, non stop! Are you impressed? Well I don’t care, I am excited.
5 kilometres is nothing, right, but the bit that excites me is that for every step of that 5 kilometres, I landed on my forefoot. That is right! I landed on the ball of my foot and as soon as I could, I lifted it straight off the ground again. And I did it continually for 5 kilometres.
Since I have been trying out my new Pose form, I have been running short distances. Even these short distances have been broken down into shorter intervals. I would run for about 1 kilometre and then stop. I would take a short break while I refocused my mind and rested my calves. Then I would run for another. Today all I did was string 5 of these individual kilometers together without the breaks. But it feels great!
This is what I was hoping for when I first hunted down the pose method of running. I was on the lookout for a way to radically change my form, from being a conventional heel striker (with injuries) to being a ridiculously efficient forefoot striker (without injuries). My dreams are slowly coming true. I have been working hard and it is now paying off.
This week it is back to the drills as well as a few more five kilometre runs as I try to get even more out of my new pose form. How about you? Are any of you running with the Pose Method of Running? I’d love to hear your story.
