Motivation depends on who you pay attention to

I have just read an very interesting post on Henrik Edberg’s site,  ThePositivityblog .  It is simply called 25 simple ways to motivate yourself, and so it really caught my attention.  As a runner I am constantly looking for new ways to keep myself motivated and moving forward, and I think that there are a few really important points made there.

Check out the full article for yourself, but I took particular notice of point 8 Compare yourself with yourself. Not with others.

I think this is absolutely essential to keeping a high but sustainable level of motivation.  If we are judging our selves by our own standards, then we have a real chance of actually seeing our progress.  Watching anyone else will simply not be a good gauge of our achievements.  How can we truly expect to see what we accomplish by watching others.  How crazy would it be to let our motivation swing on something like this, that is out of our control.

If we compare ourself to ourself and our own expectations we can really be in control of our own success.  If we reach our own standards then we celebrate and power on, if we don’t make it then we know where to focus our attention so we can take the next step.

How motivating is that!
