Newton running shoes - The New Kids in Town

June 23rd, 2007 · 3 Comments

I love running shoes.  I think it is the whole association thing, but just the thought of running shoes makes me happy.  Does that sound weird to you, or am I not alone?

Anyhow there is a new kid in town in the world of running shoes and they have bought with them a whole new bag of tricks.  They are called Newton.

So what do these guys offer that the conventional shoe manufacturers don’t?  They don’t seem to make big puffed up fashion trainers.  It doesn’t look like they have a massive marketing budget.  Their shoes aren’t traditional or even all that well known.  But what they have in their favour is that they focus on shoes for forefoot strikers.  Tell me that a month ago and I would have said “So what!”  But now that I am a forefoot striker myself (thanks to the Pose Method) I am all ears.

Wading through the marketing spiel about years of development and patents, they outline their design and it all seems to make sense.  They have done their homework and have developed a range of shoes to suit forefoot strikers that appears effective and robust.  There are four shoes each for men and women: a trainer and a racer of cushioned or stability types.  I have not been looking for either cushioning or stability in shoes since I started off in the Pose Method of Running, but if everything else checks out then I would like to give them a trial.  The shoes look good and the quality of the athletes that they have signed up is impressive.  Have a look for yourself at Newton Running

I was all ready to try and order a pair when I noticed, on their check out page, that they don’t ship outside of the USA.  This is a real bummer for me as I am in Japan.

So I need your help!  I want to find out if these shoes are as good as they claim.

Have any of you seen, tried out or even bought a pair of Newton shoes?  I am stinging for some more information so please let me know about your experiences, by leaving a comment below.

Thanks

Tom

hey tom… I met a guy named Tom that was living in Japan. I met him when I was in Laos getting my Visa sorted out - I think in Savannaket or maybe Vientianne. Were you there a year ago or so? Maybe 2 years now. I had a card given to me by a guy named Tom in a restaurant there. Just curious… Vern

No, sorry, it wasn’t me. I haven’t been to Laos before. But if his name was Tom, he must have been a nice guy.

Vern, you certainly know how to travel!

    Thanks
    Tom

    Tom,

I have a pair of the gravity and they are the best shoes I have ever had. I have used them in the Ironman Arizona and they kept my legs feeling fresh. I am not sure if the actuators are helping me or not. However, even with that in mind they are worth the crazy price.
