I was warned and so I should have expected it. It is my own fault, this is what happens when you try and change anything. You simply have to adapt!
I am talking about the sore legs that I am experiencing now that I have begun proper running with the Pose Method. I have been running short distances all this week trying to keep The Pose all of the way. Whenever I felt like I was losing it, I would stop, take a break and try to settle myself. Then I was off again. This meant that I was able to keep it going for just 4 kilometres or so total in a session. And even that was pushing my endurance.
The result is that my calves, particularly the outside back of them are sore. It started off as a little bit of discomfort, but now after a week it has become distinct soreness. Especially when I walk down stairs.
Every review I have read has mentioned the same problem but they all assure me that the pain goes away in about 2 weeks. Presumably, when my muscles have sufficiently begun to adapt to the changes.
Well I can’t wait for it to disappear. It is enough to make me back out of running today. Instead I will head down to the park for a session of Pose Drills. These aren’t any easier on my calves than running, but at least I can focus specifically on the method rather than risk altering my form because of my sore legs.
Tomorrow I won’t run as I will be riding in the Tour of Lake Kasumigaura, and Monday is my rest day, so hopefully by Tuesday I will be feeling a bit looser in the legs, and ready for another week.
Although I am uncomfortable, it is not enough to dampen my enthusiasm. Any serious change means adaption and there is always some sort of pain involved. So long as the benefit is worth it, soreness like this is nothing. I will have to convince myself of this many times tomorrow as I ride. It’s a relatively flat course but it is bound to be hard.
